Fiji, officially known as the Republic of the Fiji Islands, is located in the South Pacific Ocean. It lies east of Vanuatu, west of Tonga and south of Tuvalu. The country is made up of approximately 330 islands of which about a third is permanently inhabited.  Fiji has a total land area of 18,333 square kilometers. Its two major islands are Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Fiji enjoys a tropical climate.

The estimated population of Fiji in September 2007 stood at 837,271. The two largest industries in the country is tourism and the sugar industry. Tourism is the largest  source of investment and the main earner of foreign exchange.
